» The 2012 Rearview: Here's a look back at what we reckon made Country music a force to be reckoned with in 2012, and what could be down the road in 2013:
  • Blake Shelton won CMA Entertainer Of The Year and his coaching efforts on The Voice resulted in a second season win with Jermaine Paul plus a third season win with Cassadee Pope. 2013 Prediction: Blake hosts Saturday Night Live with musical guest Miranda Lambert.
  • Taylor Swift let her music do the talking with the record-breaking release of Red and kept hush-hush on relationship rumors. Her promotional campaign for the new album, however, sparked cozy relationships with companies including Keds, Walgreens and Papa John's. 2013 Prediction: Taylor Swift gets betrothed ... to Nike, Apple, Starbucks or some other high-profile suitor/sponsor. Maybe.

  • Jason Aldean powered to a career high with the release Night Train and announce a massive stadium tour that sold out within hours. 2013 Prediction: He parks a Big Green Tractor next to Fenway's big Green Monster.

  • Keith Urban decided not to reprise the role of coach on Australia's The Voice in order to become the newest judge on American Idol. Keith also became a member of the Opry and was nominated for a Golden Globe. 2013 Prediction: He produces a country album for ... wait for it ... Nicole Kidman.

  • 2012 Country Music Hall Of Fame inductee Garth Brooks ended his three-year residency at the Wynn in Las Vegas. Shania Twain started her Vegas residency around the same time Tim McGraw and Faith Hill began theirs. 2013 Prediction: Garth makes his Vegas return ...  to compete against Shania, Carrot Top, Lance Burton, Cher, Tim and Faith in a Pai Gow poker tournament.

  • Less than a week after Hurricane Sandy hit, Carrie Underwood donated all profits and proceeds from her Blown Away Tour stop in Atlantic City, NJ to storm victims. 2013 Prediction: Carrie titles her next album Perfect Weather.

  • Miranda Lambert had a Twitter feud with Chris Brown. Miranda Lambert had a Twitter feud with Ashton Kutcher. 2013 Prediction: Miranda has a Twitter feud with web designer Ashton Brown. Help her find a reason to get mad at him here.

  • Kenny Chesney & Tim McGrawRascal Flatts, Lady Antebellum, Toby Keith, Eric Church, Brad Paisley, Zac Brown Band and more rolled out big successful tours. And George Strait announced The Cowboy Rides Away tour for 2013/2014 ... his last. 2020 Prediction: Strait announces The Cowboy Rides Again tour.




» Stop, Luke & Listen: Which country artist did you hear most on the radio in 2012? If you said, Luke Bryan, you're a winner. "Johnny, tell them what they've won!" According to the folks who run the radio charts (that's Country Aircheck/Mediabase), Luke's music was blasting through radio speakers or headphones more than any other. The most-heard female artist was Miranda Lambert, group was Zac Brown Band and the most heard new artist was Kip Moore. » You Belong With Please: Taylor Swift sits atop the Ten Best-Mannered People of 2012 list for "inspiring young people with her music and her manners." The list is created by the National League of Junior Cotillions and also includes actor Daniel Radcliffe for "Kindness extended to his Harry Potter fans." Swift has also named one of Forbes' 30 Under 30 in the Music category. The annual list of "young disruptors, innovators and entrepreneurs" includes categories such as Sports, Tech and Food & Wine. » World's End: Jason AldeanTaylor Swift and Carrie Underwood lead the nominees for the 2012 World Music Awards. Aldean has six including World's Best Male Artist and World’s Best Entertainer of the Year. Swift and Underwood have five nods apiece, competing in the categories of World's Best Female Artist, World's Best Video, World's Best Song and World's Best Album. Blake Shelton, Kid Rock, Lady Antebellum, Brad Paisley, Miranda Lambert and Keith Urban round out country's World presence with one nomination each. The last awards show of the year happens exactly as the Myans predicted: Dec. 20 in Miami. More here.

» In Case You Missed It: The Voice started the final week of season three with Blake Shelton and the other coaches, hosts and contestants singing Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" while each performer held a sign with the name and age of a Sandy Hook Elementary School victim. Watch here ... and have a tissue handy.

The finals ended with another win for Team Blake crowning Cassadee Pope season three champion. Upon the results, Shelton tweeted, "We did it!! We did it! I love y'all!!!!" Watch here.
